The City of Sydney acknowledges the Indigenous people who live within the Local Government Area. The two Indigenous groups represent the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.
Both groups are distinct from each other racially and culturally. All services and programs provided by the City of Sydney are available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

(ATSIAP) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Panel
On 15 December 2008 Council appointed the City of Sydney’s first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Panel made up of community and industry professionals, youth and elders.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities’ Activities
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, like other community groups, have a range of formal and informal days and weeks to mark important times within their communities.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Protocols
These protocols will continue to be developed in consultation with the City’s Indigenous community. The protocols are available online.
Community Grants
The City of Sydney has an annual Cultural and Community Grants program which supports local organisations. The grants are for a maximum of $5,000. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Community Organisations can apply for these grants.

Eastern Region Local Government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Forum
This forum consists of representatives of Local Government Councils and invited organisations to discuss and plan joint Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander activities
Employment and Training
The City of Sydney is currently in negotiation with various agencies for the delivery of employment and training specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
General Partnerships
The City of Sydney is negotiating partnerships with Government Departments who deliver Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs along with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations.
Koori South Eastern Region Interagency
The City of Sydney is a member of the Koori South Eastern Region Interagency and seeks advice and distributes information on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues through the interagency.
