Lights Camera Action

Lights Camera Action (LCA) is an innovative program that provides young Indigenous people living in the City of Sydney with the chance to gain new skills and explore employment possibilities in theatre, film and television.

LCA Participants

What is the aim of LCA?

LCA seeks to develop and improve employment opportunities for local Indigenous people by providing an opportunity to build and establish a career in the theatre, film and television industries. The program also seeks to address the under-representation of Indigenous people in film, television and print media advertising.

How does LCA work?

LCA operates as a unique talent agency with the costs of producing casting photographs, are met by the City of Sydney. Each participants photographs are posted on a secure website accessible to registered casting agents, producers, television networks and production companies.

LCA also offers participants assistance with transport to auditions and shoots plus access to internal and industry training courses. Over 150 people have joined the agency, many securing paid work. High profile jobs include feature films Little Fish, Candy, Jindabyne and Baz Luhrmann’s film Australiaplus television work on Channel 7’s All Saints, ABC’s youth drama, Out There II, Foxtel’s Supernova, Channel 9’s The Alice and commercials for companies such as Westpac.

Who are LCA’s patrons?

Indigenous actors, producers and directors Karla Grant, Wayne Blair, Deborah Mailman, Aaron Pederson and Leah Purcell are all patrons of LCA. They provide positive Indigenous role models for the participants and take part in some of the LCA training courses.

LCA conducts it’s own acting workshops called ‘Mission 2 Audition’ and are a great insight into the casting and auditions process. LCA also conducts industry related tours to explore employment pathways and opportunities by visiting organisations such as Australian Film Television and Radio Schools (AFTRS), ABC TV and Fox Studios.
